Swedish Weekend!
Another great weekend at the Art Shanty Projects. Swedish identities were assumed, six people were married at the bridge, troll chases occurred, and we even had visits from Hedda Gabler and Jens Stoltenberg! And, the ASI Cloudberries performed!
Opening Weekend  - Danish and Norwegian!

It was a great start to the Art Shanty Projects - tons of people came out over this three-day weekend to try on our billy goat costumes, assume new identities, and cross by the territorial troll beneath the bridge.

Askeladden decorates the Gruff House

Our Norwegian pre-k class (Askeladden/Barnehage) made decorations to decorate the interior of our little billy goat house! Crocheted squares made by Vivian "Lillemor" Borey and Solveig "Olava" Bjermeland.
De tre bukkene bruse - The three billy goats gruff

Meanwhile, artists Hannah Hansen, Margaret Hansen, and Drew Pelehos work diligently on the goat costumes! Introducing Tanngrisnir, Knudeman, and Lille Venn!
Bringing the Nordic Village Bridge to Medicine Lake

Imagine lugging a 500 lb staircase down a sandy hill and then skating it across the ice. Surreal? Yes.

Building - Part II

Construction continues! Final touches are added, painting, furniture making, and crocheting for the interior walls of the Goat Booth.

Building - Part I

Ongoing construction of the Troll Bridge and the Billy Goat Booth, at Gliddens Limo and Magna's Garage, respectively. Also, the villagers of Norge Rundt (Saturday Norwegian class) made gingerbread ice shanties in honor of the upcoming event.

Sketching out ideas & buying stuff

It's all a part of envisioning the process and having a common (visual) language for talking us through it. Here are some sketches that we used to begin our conversations about building the Nordic Village Bridge Art Shanty.

From there, it was off to buy and scrounge some basic materials for the skeleton of the structures. It's a good feeling to get started on building again!
